SOLAR STREET LIGHT
This
system is designed for outdoor application in un-electrified remote
rural areas. This system is an ideal application for campus and village
street lighting. The system is provided with battery storage backup
sufficient to operate the light for 10-11 hours daily. The system is
provided with automatic ON/OFF time switch for dusk to down operation
and overcharge / deep discharge prevention cut-off with LED indicators.
The solar street light system comprise of
- 74 Wp Solar PV Module
- 12 V, 75 Ah Tubular plate battery with battery box
- Charge Controller cum inverter (20-35 kHz)
- 11 Watt CFL Lamp with fixtures
- 4 metre mildsteel lamp post above ground level with weather proof paint and mounting hardware.
The
SPV modules are reported to have a service life of 15-20 years. Tubular
Batteries provided with the solar street lighting system require lower
maintenance; have longer life and give better performance as compared
to pasted plate batteries used earlier.
The systems electronic
provide for over-charge and over-discharge cut-off essential for
preventing battery and luminaries damages.
Renewable Energy?
Most
renewable energy comes either directly or indirectly from the sun.
Sunlight, or solar energy, can be used directly for heating and
lighting homes and other buildings, for generating electricity, and a
variety of commercial and industrial uses.
In
Modern world, energy holds the key to develop & energy consumption
is linked with economic progress. Generally higher income or output of
a nation is closely related with higher level of energy consumption.
However, energy is one element of the infrastructure, required for
production & the daily needs of the masses, which can not be
imported on any scale for a country like India's population & size. So self-reliance &Higher degree of self-sufficiency is urgently called for.
The largest consumer of energy in our nation is the household sector.
Accounting for 50%of total energy consumption in rural areas & most
of this is delivered from non-commercial sources like firewood, animal
plant & agricultural waste etc. Bulk of the new & Renewable
sources of energy are sun wind power, biomass, waste utilization etc.
The integrated for tacking the problems of energy & improving the
quality of life in the rural areas.
Energy
problem of the rural areas can be tackled by utilization of renewable
sources of energy such as Solar, wind & Bio-energy. For evolving an
appropriate strategy for energy
In
the rural areas, It is essential to have assessment of existing
availability of energy resources and also to make some projections for
future availability.
ENERGY SCENARIO IN INDIA
India
as per capita consumption of commercial energy at 208kg oil replacement
units is only one eight of the world average. The energy intensity of
growth on the other hand is
Extremely high while energy efficiency remains low with one unit input of energy. India
Produces only half of what is produced in developed countries. Further, for one- % growth
In GNP, the country requires 2.02% energy growth.
The
country has achieved a 170kwh per capita per year energy consumption.
But in reality 75-80% of this goes to 20% capital in our villages. And
60% of this is used for cooking alone. Rural electrification programs
have neither, energy reached to any
Significant section of the rural population nor has it slowed the pace of deforestation
Coal,
gas & oil are the major fuels to be consumed in the power plants
but as a matter Of facts these fuels are exhaustive & therefore,
anxiety over the supply position of fosses fuels has largely been
faded. These fuels are considered to provide energy to a rapidly
expanding world population not beyond the middle of the next century.
Below table presents the position of energy resources in not beyond the
middle of the next century.
